User and Society has been an area I have not thought much about in the first half of my studies. But as I progressed and gotten into it, I really enjoyed spending time and effort on it.
In Tap2tap, my B1 project, we had a neighbourhood community approach to an otherwise standalone water management system, which aimed to transform saving water in draughts a community effort. Implementing this solution also made us aware that our actions could affect relationships within societies.
With User Centered Design especially, I learned how to locate the needs of users in a design perspective. I then retrospectively altered this matter in Samsara, I designed a framework into a cookbook which aims to be understandable from people with any background.
Being my final Bachelor project, un-Compliant mechanisms imagines a new group for both user and society in a reality where humans don’t have the monopoly in exerting opinions on the world by themselves; and objects can start reacting as well. This power imbalance I designed intentionally has driven me to explore how different stakeholders in the observable world around us can revolutionize design for the future, in times where we won’t be so fortunate to get away with whatever we want.
My vision of post-human interaction design aims future societal impact more so than anything else by transforming approaches to daily mundane concepts, turning them into beautiful interactions or rituals, bringing colour to the regular.
